yesterday my wife's youngest bunny, klaus, died. he was less than 12 months old and was extra special to her as he was a purebred 'dutch' rabbit. anne had wanted a dutch for a long time and was very excited when he came home with us for the first time. sadly, yesterday we found him in the hutch not moving. we took him out and tried to give him water and food, but he seemed lifeless and was breathing very slowly. we rushed him to the vets and they tried for an hour or so to get fluids into him, but as they said 'it was like the lights were on, but no one was home'. he passed away at the vets, of his own accord, which saved us the horrible decision of having to let him go. the vet wasn't sure what had occurred, but speculated he may have had a stroke.
whilst it's sad that klaus is gone, we have a lot of memories of him. he used to love ripping paper, chewing everything in site and eating. he sure loved eating! here are some pictures of klaus taken recently, such as him enjoying a bath and then drying off afterwards and klaus opening presents on christmas day with the other bunnies. he was having a ball!
1. klaus in his normal state, eating!
2. cheeky klaus
3. klaus enjoying a bath
4. klaus, post-bath, hence his scruffy fur. note, king of the castle pose!
5. opening presents on christmas day with the other bunnies
6. sukie, fred, ziggy and nino pay their respects to klaus. technically freddie is eating, but that's what klaus would have wanted!
and finally, klaus ripping paper. or as i prefer to think, helping celebrate the cats 2009 grand final win!
bye klaus.
