Abandoned Mt Gambier Hospital
I recently spent a few days in Mt Gambier and stumbled across the old abandoned Mt Gambier Hospital. It was quite a sight as it sits right up on top of the hill overlooking Mt Gambier in what could only be described as the best vantage point in town. It is completely derelict and has apparently been abandoned for over 10 years. It's supposed to be developed into a retirement village, however it's had many delays and hold ups.
This is the front of the building. From the top levels you would have a superb view over the town and surrounding districts.
This is the view from the other side of the lake that is behind the hospital. Mt Gambier has three lakes (two currently filled with water) in the crater of the old volcano.
Main Entrance. Views from the west side of the building. The entire property is fenced off, however there are many easy ways to enter. It's obvious from the grafitti and broken windows that it's a common past time for the local kids. There isn't a window that hasn't been broken. This is the old supply department where trucks would have backed up and unloaded. It's quite strange to see the level of destruction inside. It looks like the building wasn't completely cleared before being closed and there are several giant holes in the walls around the building.
